Counselling Agreement
This is the working agreement between us when we begin therapy. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service, and is grounded in the Code of Ethics and Practice of the IACP (Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), of which I am a member.
Confidentiality
Everything you share in sessions is treated as confidential. The limited exceptions are described in the Privacy Policy — namely risk of serious harm, certain legal disclosures, and a court order. Wherever possible I will discuss any disclosure with you first.
Supervision
As required by my professional body, I attend regular clinical supervision. Supervision is itself confidential and you are never identified by name.
Sessions
- Sessions last 50 minutes and take place online by video.
- Please log in from a private, quiet space where you will not be interrupted.
- If technology fails, I will try to reconnect or move to phone for the remainder of the session.
Cancellation
- More than 24 hours' notice — full refund or reschedule, no charge.
- Less than 24 hours' notice — full session fee applies.
Between sessions
I check email during working hours and aim to reply within two working days. Email is not suitable for urgent or crisis support — if you need immediate help please contact your GP, call 999, or call the Samaritans on 116 123.
Records
I keep brief, factual notes after each session. These are stored securely and retained for 7 years after our work ends, in line with professional guidance. You may request a copy of your notes at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
Ending therapy
You are free to end therapy at any time. Where possible I encourage us to plan a final session together so we can review the work and end well.
Complaints
If something is not working for you, I would much prefer you bring it to me first so we can talk it through. You also have the right to contact my professional body if a concern cannot be resolved.
